Takahashi Mewlon 180C OTA

Takahashi Mewlon 180C OTA

The Mewlon 180 is the smallest of a series of high-quality Dall Kirkham telescopes from Japanese manufacturer Takahashi. This Cassegrain variation has an ellipsoidal primary mirror and a spherical secondary mirror. The system is open at the front, so it cools down quickly and there are no tau problems. The Mewlon 180 was reissued in 2016 and has been improved in several respects. It now also has a 2 inch eyepiece connector (like the Mewlon 210), the mirrors have a new mirror finish with a 7% higher reflection (see diagram below) and the viewfinder has also been redesigned. Focusing, as with the Mewlon 210, on the main mirror, while the mechanics is very solid and causes no or very little shifting (stellar offset when focusing).

This telescope is particularly suitable for the moon and planets, but thanks to the 2-inch connector you can also reach larger fields of view and have fun with DeepSky objects. The high contrast performance of the Mewlon devices is almost supernatural for a reflector telescope, here are the perfect construction and the quality of the optics noticeable. With the Mewlon you have a pure mirror system without any color error. On planets, the finest details become visible, with today's recording techniques planetary recordings in professional quality are possible.

The high-quality 6x30 viewfinder is firmly connected to the tube and can also be used as a carrying handle, it has been revised in its shape to allow a more comfortable embrace.

FEATURES:

The precision of optical surfaces is at least of λ/20. This standard of quality induces a strong concentration of the light in Airy disc, physical image of a star looked through any optical system. The stellar images are more defined and contrasted. The Mewlon primary mirror, oversized compared to the effective aperture, is installed in a mirror cell especially designed to avoid stresses sometimes generating of astigmatism.

The fixing of Mewlon on equatorial mountings is carried out using functional and effective dovetails. Their design facilitates frequent handling such as balancing or OTA assembly/ disassembly without deterioration. Moreover, on Mewlon of large diameters, a counterweight is provided to balance the optical tube. Mewlon integrates a high quality finder scope, associating luminosity and sharpness. This finder scope can also be used as a handle for transportation, without creating any bending or malfunctioning.

The focuser, often one of the weak points of the current telescopes, was particularly neat. The translating mechanism of the primary mirror of Mewlon 180mm is machined with a particular care in the Takahashi workshops in order to reduce the shifting, to obtain a softness and an optimal regularity of focusing. Equipped with a 50.8mm eyepiece holder in standard, you will be able to associate the most appropriate accessory with it, for visual, photographic or CCD use. The complete and coherent range of accessories proposed, will reach any of your goals.

Optics:

Mewlon are Cassegrain reflectors using the Dall-Kirkham optical design. The elliptic primary mirror is associated with a spherical secondary mirror. The image is returned to the back of the instrument via an opening spared in the center of the primary mirror.
